Most housing action plans are written by consultants and presented to the community as finished products. Archuleta County is taking a different approach — the community is building the plan itself.
Western Spaces is the engagement and housing specialist under ECOnorthwest. We designed and run a working group of county officials, housing providers, employers, and residents over several sessions, with a dashboard built for it that shows the data and tracks priorities as the group sets them.
The working group came ready to work, so the sessions follow its questions rather than a script.
They have thought through the problems and are willing to make hard trade-offs. By the end, the group will own the plan because they will have made the decisions that shaped it.
